Star Trek icon William Shatner recently went viral for a rather strange reason. Images of Shatner seemed to feature the Captain Kirk actor eating cereal while behind the wheel of a car. The photos are apparently genuine, as the 94-year-old confirmed as much with a new video shared online.
Posted on X, the video was posted with the caption, “And yes, it was Raisin Bran.” Shatner explained in the footage that he was indeed eating cereal because fiber is a very important part of his diet. The actor also tagged the official account for Kellogg’s and used the hashtag #Ad, but it’s unclear if this is part of an actual partnership with the cereal brand. In any case, he went on to share an image of himself stepping out of a vehicle holding a box of Raisin Bran in another post, doing his best to promote the breakfast cereal.
“Fiber, in its various forms, and of course Kellogg’s cereals, is an absolute necessity for good health,” Shatner said in the video. “The more I think about it, the more important it becomes to me, and the old adage, there’s nothing better for you than your health, I know firsthand how health is so important.”
He continued, “It’s even a cliche to say ‘so important.’ It’s of the utmost importance in your life. If you don’t have health, you don’t have love. You’re permanently disturbed. With health, equanimity, love, you can appreciate everything and everybody around you.”
Though he’s in his 90s, Shatner has stayed active in TV and film in recent years. This includes performing on The Masked Singer and doing voiceover work for Masters of the Universe: Revolution. In 2024, he was the subject of the documentary William Shatner: You Can Call Me Bill, in which he also served as the narrator.
