Ryan Murphy has another television hit with the launch of his newest series, The Beauty. The series launched on FX and Hulu with the debut of its first three episodes on Jan. 21. Per FlixPatrol, it’s already ranking on the streaming charts, debuting at No. 8 on the Top 10 TV shows available on Hulu.

Even ahead of its launch, The Beauty was turning heads. The official trailer reached nearly 190 million views across social media platforms after its first seven days online, setting a new record for FX. With these kinds of numbers, it’s certainly not a shocker to see The Beauty off to a good start with its streaming viewership.

Created by Murphy and Matthew Hodgson, The Beauty is adapted from the original comic book by Jeremy Haun and Jason A. Hurley. The TV show adaptation also features a strong ensemble cast with names like Evan Peters, Anthony Ramos, Jeremy Pope, Rebecca Hall, and Ashton Kutcher.

The show is part sci-fi and part body horror. In the series, per the official synopsis, “when international supermodels begin dying in gruesome and mysterious ways, FBI Agents Cooper Madsen (Peters) and Jordan Bennett (Hall) uncover a conspiracy that threatens the future of humanity. The investigation leads them directly into the crosshairs of ‘The Corporation’ (Kutcher), who will stop at nothing to protect his trillion-dollar empire.”

As Haun previously said about the original concept via Image Comics, “The Beauty is an STD that makes you beautiful. That can’t be a bad thing at all, right?”

“We’re obsessed with outward beauty. It’s…a bit of a problem,” he continued. “We’re bombarded day-in and day-out with commercials, magazines, and general entertainment telling us that we should look a certain way. We see all of that are willing to do anything to be beautiful—perfect. People are going on crash diets, doing extreme fad exercise plans, and getting elective surgeries right and left.”

Haun added, “I looked at all of that and wanted to examine exactly how far we’d go to look beautiful. Would we be willing to catch a disease? In a lot of cases, I think the answer would be yes.”

The Beauty is now streaming on Hulu.
