The people who live in the town in From have now begun to retreat into themselves, looking for answers. In “Of Myths and Monsters,” we get to peek under the hood at the strange yet maybe plausible ideas they are coming up with and the coping mechanisms they’re using. The evil that surrounds the town, including Sophia/The Man in the Yellow Suit, is currently right in the middle of them, and has seen this all play out before. It makes you wonder if there is any scenario they are not prepared to deal with in the horrific game they are playing.

One of the more interesting things is watching what Fatima (Pegah Ghafoori) is up to. Enlisting Elgin (Nathan D.Simmons) for help, she begins to construct a Golem, a creature of strength and protection, drawing on the religious stories from her youth. While Eglin brings in piles and piles of dirt, Fatima constructs it in secret at the Colony House.

After showing it/discussing it with Boyd (Harold Perrineau) and Kenny (Ricky He), they decided to keep what she is doing a secret. The exception is Jade (David Alpay), who learned through eavesdropping.

Julie (Hannah Cheramy), with the somewhat reluctant help from Randall (A.J.Simmons) uses the knowledge from the kids books they rescued from the old collapsed house to form a plan. Julie’s gift, which is described as storywalking, needs what is essentially a bookmark to mark where she goes, so she can revisit the place.

However, when she reenters the ruins, she is transported to a time when everyone is dead, and The Man in the Yellow Suit is feeding on them. Once he notices her, she runs, and Randall manages to pull her out, but his experiment fails, as her attempt at bookmarking the part in the story fails. I’m sure they will try again, but it’s probably not a good thing that she was spotted by The Man in the Yellow Suit.

The Jade and Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno) dynamic continues to evolve. Both have grudgingly accepted that they are reincarnations of former residents, but deal with it in different ways. Jade, frustrated at his inability to access the information inside his head, had collected enough mushrooms to send him on a psychedelic trip in order to get the information.

Tabitha, however, begins to doubt her ability to figure things out, and while on a trip to gather food, she needs Donna (Elizabeth Saunders) to sit her down and center her thoughts. Both Jade and Tabitha have some answers, but they need to find out how to access them, and soon.

Sophia (Julia Doyle) continues to wander through town, watching and probing for clues on how best to slow any progress, knowing hope is all many have left. Her newest target is Sara (Avery Conrad), who once again starts hearing the voices (courtesy of Sophia) that once drove her to kill. As Sara struggles to push back against the voices, it is clear that what happened before has severely damaged her confidence in herself to fight the evil in her mind.

Henry (Robert Joy) attempts to talk to Victor (Scott McCord) about what he knows about The Man in the Yellow Suit. Eventually, Victor leads him to an area and, after digging up numerous holes, finds what he was looking for: pictures he drew as a child when The Man in the Yellow Suit was around. He apparently came into town like everyone else, and soon it became apparent that he wasn’t what he seemed.

The pictures told the whole story, the most horrifying being the one showing him eating Victor’s dead mother, Miranda. The shock on Henry’s face leads you to believe that here is one individual who is on the brink of giving up and losing himself in his favorite crutch, alcohol.

The episode ends with the party out hunting for food, digging up a huge, long rope that, when pulled, brings something up from the bottom of the nearby lake. Ethan (Simon Webster) hoped this lake was the Lake of Tears his dad told him to find. However, the way things have been going in this town lately, whatever is in that lake should probably stay there.

It is just another piece of the very large puzzle that is that town. While the mysterious lore continues to grow, time seems to be running out for everyone.

While similar in some ways to last week’s episode, From Season 4, Episode 4, “Of Myths and Monsters” delves a little deeper into the mental state of many in the town, watching how they try to cope with the constant stress and danger while staying sane. It feels like a more personal level of stress has been exposed. Wth Sophia, watching in the wings to exploit anything she can, it remains to be seen whether the townspeople can continue their mental gymnastics to accomplish what they need to do.
