HorrorGeekLife is saddened to hear that Robin Hardy, director of classic horror The Wicker Man, has died age 86.

Hardy, who only directed 3 movies in his lifetime including a Wicker Man sequel in 2011, came to prominence with the British horror opus back in 1973. The film, which starred the late great Christopher Lee and Edward Woodward, told the story of a policeman searching for a girl who had gone missing on a creepy Scottish island and is considered one of the all time greats by many horror fans. He was believed to be in the process of writing a third movie at the time of his death, which was planned as a tribute to Lee who died last year.

Full details are yet to be released, but a friend has revealed via the BBC that Hardy died at home last night.
