Eenie meenie miney moe, catch a Walker by its toe … The Walking Dead shuffled back into our lives today, teasing the hordes of fans at San Diego Comic Con with a new trailer, 12 weeks ahead of the Season 7 premier.
Appearing on stage in full Negan mode, Jeffrey Dean Morgan menaced fans with Lucile in hand asking if they were “Pissing their pants”, before being joined by series regulars Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Michael Cudlitz, Danai Gurira and Josh McDermitt.
The Walking Dead cast remained tight-lipped on which cast member got to experience a tête-à-tête with Negan’s baseball bat, craftily deflecting questions about whether the show would kill off mega-popular Glenn Rhee a la the comic book’s 100th issue before finally unleashing the full trailer.
So what can we make of the trailer itself? There isn’t too much in the way of spoilers. The aesthetic is clearly very dark this year and as we already know, picks up right where Season 6 left off. We see the gang all lined up on their knees in the mud with one of them about to bow out for good, a montage of happier times playing alongside their current predicament. All of the action shots are largely reserved for the B-list characters such as Jesus and Morgan. We also get a sneak peak of Shiva, the Tiger belonging to King Ezekiel, the yet to be introduced leader of the Kingdom which should make for some awesome scenes.
We’re sure more will be revealed as we edge ever closer to the premiere date of October, 29th but for now this will have to be enough to whet our appetites for braaaaaaaains!
