I’m not sure I want to live in a world where Keith Lemon can have his own movie, Kim Kardashian is a reality TV superstar, and yet there will 100% never be a third Hellboy movie.
That’s right folks, prepare to have your hopes and dreams crushed into a million billion pieces. In the last few hours, Guillermo del Toro, who directed the first two adaptations of Mike Mignola’s iconic comic book, took to Twitter to confirm that he has spoken with the powers that be and a threequel simply won’t happen. And that’s final.
Hellboy 3 Sorry to report: Spoke w all parties. Must report that 100% the sequel will not happen. And that is to be the final thing about it

Hellboy 2 was released way back in 2008, and talk of a follow up have been on and off ever since. Things looked hopeful, though, when del Toro advised his half a million plus followers on social media that if his online poll received a desirable number of positive votes, then he would enter into “serious talks” with the relevant parties.
When the poll closed, 68% of people voted a resounding “Hell Yes” and, true to his word, del Toro went to work. We now know that somehow, somewhere, these talks broke down and are likely never to be broached again.

The finality of the tweet likely means that, if there is ever a reboot years down the line, then original star Ron Pearlman would be too old to reprise the role. Pearlman as Hellboy is simply one of those roles you just can’t imagine anyone else taking on. Coupled with the recent loss of John Hurt, perhaps it’s best the franchise is left well alone going forward.
It’s still a shit day to be a Hellboy fan, though. How do you feel about this news? Would you want to see the franchise rebooted or adapted for TV? Sound off in the comments section below.
