The title for the upcoming Hellboy cinematic reboot has been revealed. The new film, starring Stranger Things’ David Harbour has been titled Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen.
The film, slated for a 2018 release, will be co-written by series creator Mike Mignola. The reboot is said to have a darker and more horror based atmosphere following the more fantastical approach in previous films, along with an R rating.
Mignola has released concept art for the new film. The image, courtesy of IGN, implies the reboot will more closely follow his distinctive visual style. Rise of the Blood Queen will be produced by Millennium Pictures and directed by Neil Marshall, director of The Descent.
The news of a reboot to the franchise has been bittersweet for most people, as fans of the previous two films have long been clamouring for a third. Guillermo Del Toro and previous Hellboy actor Ron Perlman recently met to discuss a potential Hellboy 3. But alas, they could not make it happen.
So, what do you think of the new title? Are you excited to see how Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen plays out, or were you hoping for a third installment? As always, let us know in the comments and on social media!
