Mother of mouthmuck! Netflix has only gone and pulled off the greatest coupe of 2017, with the announcement that they’re making a television series based on The Dark Crystal!

Following the revelation that a sequel to Labyrinth may be in the works (without David Bowie? Hmmm), the world needed some good Jim Henson news, and by gum this is it.

All we know at this stage is the show will be a prequel to the 1982 legit fantasy classic, The Dark Crystal, and will be set decades before the events of the movie. The series, which will span 10 episodes, will be titled The Dark Crystal: The Age of Resistance, will once again see a group of Gelfling’s set out to bring an end to the tyrannical rule of the dreaded Skeksis.

Brian Froud, the original film’s creature designer, will return alongside Lisa Henson, and long-time Henson collaborator Rita Peruggi. The Incredible Hulk’s Louis Letterier will direct.

According to the team, it will be a continuation of Jim’s original vision for the story that they are translating to the small screen, and will capture both the fantasy and the horror of the film. Cindy Holland, VP of Original Content at Netflix had this to say:

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will combine the art of puppetry perfected by the Jim Henson Company, with powerful storytelling and a mix of cutting-edge digital imagery and visual effects. I can’t wait for families around the world to see how we bring these unique characters back to life.”

As a special treat for fans, Netflix released the following short teaser, to coincide with this exciting news. You can check it out below:
