After releasing the NES Classic Edition, it seems that Nintendo is carrying on what they started with the announcement of a second miniaturized console- the Super NES Classic Mini. Like the NES, this shrunken bit of retro comes with two wired controllers, a HDMI cable, and an USB cable. It does not come with an AC adapter for power and, while I can see the reason, it may feel like you’re opening your shiny new toy, only to find that you need batteries.
Anyone with an original Super Nintendo knows that getting the console to work on new TV’s can be slightly tricky. The baby offspring is already HDMI ready, so you’ll be able to chase after Yoshi in Super Mario World in beautiful clarity. What will also help with the clarity are the short cables for the controllers. They’re not wireless, so you may have to take it full retro and sit on the floor to play the classics.
As per the Mini NES, the Super NES Classic Mini is not connected to the net, so you’re limited to the 21 games that comes on it. Not saying that’s a bad thing. The quality of games they’ve put on this unit is simply outstanding, with cult classics and old time favorites. Without further adieu, the list is below:
- Contra 3
- Donkey Kong Country
- Earthbound
- Final Fantasy 3
- F-Zero
- Kirby Super Star
- Kirby’s Dream Course
- Legend of Zelda : Link to the Past
- Secret of Mana
- Star Fox
- Star Fox 2
- Street Fighter 2 Turbo
- Super Castlevania 4
- Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts
- Super Mario Kart
- Super Mario RPG
- Super Mario World
- Super Mario World 2
- Super Metroid
- Super Punch Out
What eagle-eyed gamers will have noticed is the addition of Star Fox 2. This was due to be a sequel back when the SNES was a big boy console. However, it never saw the light of day, until now.
From reports, most retailers are selling their pre-orders like hot cakes. If you’re itching for a high definition play through of Link to the Past again, you better get your orders in now. The console is set for release on September 29, 2017.
