Although Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas came out 24 years ago and has gained a massive cult following, fans have never seen a sequel come to light. According to a 2009 A.V. Club interview with director Henry Selick, he “spoke with Disney years ago about it” and they wanted the stop-motion effects to instead be CG. Now, it looks like fans will finally get a proper sequel, but in the form of a comic book.

Tokyopop, who is known for publishing manga and anime, will be expanding the story line in Nightmare Before Christmas: Zero’s Journey. Instead of following Jack and Sally, the comic will focus on Jack’s ghost dog, Zero, in Christmas Town.

The series will be written by D.J. Milky with Studio Dice creating the art. Full-color issues will be distributed to comic book stores, before getting released in color trade paperbacks and back and white “pocket-sized manga” volumes.

The comic will launch in Spring 2018. Stay tuned for more details!
