If you’re a fan of The Walking Dead and you swear you can survive a zombie outbreak if it happened in your town, now’s your chance to prove it. The Walking Dead: Our World, an upcoming mobile game from Next Games, will literally bring the walkers from the hit AMC show to your neighborhood.
By using your phone’s location data and Google Maps, when you play the game you will be forced to take on hordes of the undead, wherever you might happen to be. So whether you’re at home, on vacation, or just screwing around at work, you’ll be able to literally see what would happen if a zombie outbreak suddenly occurred. The good news is that characters from the TV series, such as Rick and Carl Grimes, Michonne, and Daryl Dixon will be there to lend a hand!
“With Google Maps, we can count on providing the most up-to-date location data, meaning that when new buildings or roads are built, we’ll have them in our game,” GameSpot quotes Next Games CEO Teemu Huuhtanen as saying. Huuhtanen goes on recommend visiting world-famous landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower for a “breathtaking experience.”
Yes, this is basically the Walking Dead version of Pokemon Go. But these AR-based games have proven to be a lot of fun, even if the novelty has a limited shelf life. It remains to be seen if this game will reach the heights of popularity that Pokemon Go was able to, especially considering ratings for the show aren’t what they used to be. But as everyone has talked about what they would do in the event of an outbreak, perhaps it’s at least worth a try.
The Walking Dead: Our World is set for a release sometime this spring or summer. For now, you can check out the new sneak peek trailer for the game below!
