It’s been barely a week since Cobra Kai premiered on YouTube Red, but the show has already proven to be a hit. Officially debuting on May 2, the first episode of the Karate Kid sequel series has already drawn over 20 million views. Needless to say, fans of the franchise across the globe were eager to check back in with Daniel-san, turning the show into an instant success.
Seeing this as a sign of good things to come, YouTube has officially ordered a second season of the show, as reported by THR. Renewing a feud from the original film, stars Ralph Macchio and William Zabka reprise their roles as Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence, respectively. 34 years later, a down on his luck Johny reopens the Cobra Kai dojo, reigniting his feud with Daniel. But this time, Daniel-san no longer has the guidance of the late Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita).
The first season runs ten episodes long and can be viewed in its entirety by those subscribed to YouTube Red. Like Season 1, the second season will also feature 10 half-hour episodes, with production set to begin in the fall. Season 2 will premiere sometime in 2019, though an official release date is not yet available.
YouTube is clearly looking for big draws to encourage more users to subscribe to their Red service. Seeing Cobra Kai‘s quick success, renewing the series is obviously a brilliant decision by the network. Fans of the original films should definitely check out the show
