Gears of War

During Microsoft’s E3 conference today, Gears of War fans got a whole bunch of content to look forward to in 2019. The Coalition has been hard at work on the future of the franchise and it has me more than excited.

First revealed was Gears POP!, a mobile game made possible by a partnership with toy manufacturer Funko and Microsoft/Coalition. There’s not a whole lot known about the game yet, but over on Twitter Funko reiterated the news saying that it’s a “mobile Gears experience.”

According to Funko CEO Brian Mariotti, Gears Pop! will have “explosive, cover-based gameplay, distinctive and powerful ultimate abilities, and deep metagame deck-building for strategy fans who love charming visuals, exciting action strategy, and real-time play,” as he told The Verge.

Next announcement is something for the PC gamers. Gears Tactics will be an entirely turn-based strategy game set 12 years before the events of the first Gears of War game. The footage shown lets it be known that it’s still the classic rivalry of the COG soldiers versus the underground dwelling Locusts. There was no mention if previously featured characters will show up in this. Gears Tactics will be exclusive to Windows 10.

And last but not least, the biggest of the three announcements is a Gears 5 game. Gears 5 will be the first game in the franchise since Microsoft bought the title back in 2016. The game will carry on from the previous game, Gears of War 4, and will follow Kait, who we met in 4. She is determined to find out where the locusts originated and lead her squad to some pretty dark and disgusting places to do so. Gears 5 will also be releasing sometime next year.

All these games look incredible and as a Funko and Gears of War fan, Gears POP! and Gears 5 are definite highlights for me from the conference.
