It’s going to be a fun winter to spend indoors this year, with the release of Fallout 76 coming in November. But what does a Fallout fanatic do while killing time, waiting for the next entry in the series? Many choose to replay some of the earlier entries, and some while going back through Fallout 4, some fans might notice an interesting Easter egg right there in the opening scenes!
If you’ve played the game, you might remember customizing the way your character appears at the start. Before then entering the vault, however, players can then explore the Sole Survivor’s home, interacting with Codsworth or baby Shaun. But if you play once again and pay more attention to the television, you’ll actually hear Vault 76 directly mentioned! An anchorman on the television reports the following:
“Since debuting Vault 76 last year, in honor of America’s Tercentenary, Vault-Tec continues to expand with plans for well over 100 Vaults around the country.”
Fallout 4 was initially released in 2015. But interestingly enough, this isn’t even the first time Vault 76 has been mentioned. Fallout 3, which was released in 2008, also made a reference to the location which is now very well-known to fans. It’s mentioned on a computer terminal found in the game, and also in a Mothership Zeta alien log.
It’s hard to say when exactly the powers that be decided to make a video game directly based on Vault 76. But what’s clear is that the location is a very important one in their minds, and after all this time, we’re all going to find out why. A prequel to the aforementioned entries, Fallout 76 will take place much earlier in the apocalypse, and the MMO will serve as a familiar but different way of exploring the Fallout universe.
Watch the official trailer for the game below! It doesn’t matter if you’ve seen it already. Trust me, it’s just as amazing each time.
