Resident Evil Game Remakes
Resident Evil 2 via Capcom

One of the most anticipated upcoming video game titles is Capcom’s Resident Evil 2. Remade from the 1998 horror sequel originally released on the Sony PlayStation, it looks to be the best Resident Evil game in years. After losing many fans due to the less-than-stellar reception of the past few games, Capcom seems to have won them all back by reinventing perhaps the most popular title in the series.

Although the game isn’t set to release until early next year, the anticipation for it isn’t lost on Capcom. They’re preparing for it to be one of their biggest releases for the fiscal year, estimating it to be in the “million seller” range. With this in mind, it’s certainly a no-brainer for the company to consider similar Resident Evil titles, and, in fact, they already are.

In their latest financial report, Capcom details their answers given to investors inquiring about the Resident Evil 2 remake, and if other games in the series will get the same treatment. “Further, regarding remakes and re-releases of titles in our back catalog, we expect to explore these further with a variety of properties,” a Capcom representative is quoted as saying.

Of course, that is about as vague as vague can be, without officially confirming more Resident Evil remakes. This also teases remakes of other popular games in the Capcom catalog as well. But if RE2 takes off as much as we’re all expecting it will, it’s only natural for Capcom to continue the series in this direction. After all, money talks.

The first Resident Evil game was remade in 2002, and RE2 will officially launch at the start of 2019. One would assume a new version of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis would be the next place to go, and I would imagine that’s something a lot of fans would want to see. But, hopefully, the incredible sales of RE2 will mean we won’t have to wait for another 17 years this time.
