Halloween / Universal Pictures

Saturday night, the all new Halloween film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Those lucky enough to be present were given the first look at the theatrical release of the film, making the all of the rest of us envious. Better yet, the consensus shared among all of the early reviews are overwhelmingly positive!

Over at Rotten Tomatoes, the flick is currently sitting at an astonishing 93% fresh rating. This is based on 15 reviews from major critics, with just one of them labeling the film “rotten.” That’s right – only one review is negative, and if not for that, the movie would be currently holding a perfect 100% rating. Wow!

Of course, once the film releases in theaters everywhere next month, the score will likely change. What this shows, however, is that most of the people who saw the film at TIFF really enjoyed it. Oddly, the new film’s current score is sitting at an exact tie with John Carpenter’s original movie, which also holds a 93% rating. While Halloween 2018 may see the score fall as more reviews come in, it’s likely to remain one of the highest-rated films of the franchise.

For those trying to avoid spoilers, I won’t get into the specifics of the reviews. The general opinion, however, is that this ought to be satisfying for both John Carpenter and the longtime fans of the franchise. To be clear, not everyone is saying that the movie is perfect, or that it’s better than Carpenter’s classic. But what is evident is that most everyone who’s seen it is walking away happy.

Halloween opens up in theaters everywhere on October 19. Watch the latest trailer below!

Synopsis: Jamie Lee Curtis returns to her iconic role as Laurie Strode, who comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.
