The Animal Crossing games from Nintendo are very simplistic in nature, yet oddly addictive. In a nutshell, the goal is to build and decorate your home while establishing good friendships with your animal neighbors. You can do favors for your friends, go hunting for certain types of bugs or fish, and dig for dinosaur fossils to donate to the local museum. Set in real time with holidays and seasonal events, there’s always something fun to do in the world of Animal Crossing.
It’s simple, but it’s charming, and the series has been a hit since the first first game was released on the Gamecube in 2001. After two sequels would release on the Nintendo DS and the Wii – Wild World and City Folk, respectively – the next official entry, New Leaf, would arrive on the 3DS in 2012. While many players still play New Leaf, many have been hoping for another installment to come to the Nintendo Switch, as the new console is ideal for something like Animal Crossing.
Today, Nintendo has confirmed that the series is coming to the Switch in 2019. This news comes after the announcement of a character from the game, Isabelle, joining the roster of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. She will be joining the generic “Villager” character, who was already representing the series in the Super Smash Bros. games. And it’s now clear she will
Animal Crossing UK on Twitter posted a video of Tom Nook congratulating Isabelle, before then teasing a new Animal Crossing game for the Switch. While we don’t see any actual gameplay footage, we do get a target release date of 2019.
