Horror fans are always at least a little leery when we hear the word “remake.” While some have been entertaining and/or successful, that’s most certainly not the case with all of them. Taking a beloved horror film like Pet Sematary and remaking it for a modern audience seems a little scary for the wrong reasons, but today’s new trailer just might have you sold on the film.
Based on the popular Stephen King novel, Pet Sematary tells the story of a heartbroken father looking to bring his recently-deceased son back from the dead. According to a local legend, those buried in a nearby “pet sematary” will come back, and the young boy is subsequently buried there. While he does return, he is now horrifically very different from the innocent child he was before, which proves true the film’s tagline: sometimes dead is better!
The uneasiness I used to carry about this remake is now completely vanquished. Each member of the cast seems solid, and the story looks to be just as heart-wrenching as the original novel and the 1989 film. As a parent, the new Pet Sematary looks like it could be rather difficult to see, but this needs to be on every horror fan’s watch list for 2019.
Anyway, that’s enough of me talking about the trailer, and it’s now time for you to watch it for yourself. You can check it out below, courtesy of Paramount Pictures. Watch the film when it’s released in theaters everywhere on April 5, 2019!
Synopsis: Based on the seminal horror novel by Stephen King, Pet Sematary follows Dr. Louis Creed (Jason Clarke), who, after relocating with his wife Rachel (Amy Seimetz) and their two young children from Boston to rural Maine, discovers a mysterious burial ground hidden deep in the woods near the family’s new home. When tragedy strikes, Louis turns to his unusual neighbor, Jud Crandall (John Lithgow), setting off a perilous chain reaction that unleashes an unfathomable evil with horrific consequences.
