With the Friday the 13th franchise still working out who owns what in terms of the rights, there’s no telling when we’ll see Jason Voorhees back on the big screen. For now, fan films set in the F13 universe are helping to ease the pain of waiting, keeping the spirit of Jason alive in the meantime. One such fan film we’ve been anticipating for a long time is Voorhees, directed by filmmaker Cody Faulk.

Hyped as the most sinister Friday the 13th film yet, the movie earned its budget through a successful crowdfunding campaign. The film is supposed to be very violent with several new bodies for Jason to dice through, which will be satisfying for those wanting to see Mr. Voorhees do what he does best. Better yet, all of the FX are practical, which is definitely great news to hear for the gorehounds out there. I’m totally digging the film’s unique premise as well, with Jason’s new set of victims consisting of lowly criminals destined to receive their comeuppance at the long-abandoned Camp Crystal Lake.

Faulk has just released the first trailer for Voorhees, which you can check out below!

Synopsis: After pulling off the perfect heist a dangerous crew of thieves flee town to the seclusion of the nearby woods. All they have to do is make it through the night so they can get away clean, but their sadistic leader has taken them to the long deserted Camp Crystal Lake, a place that is no longer on any maps and for good reason. Unaware of the location’s notorious past, the fugitives begin to explore their temporary hideout and soon realize that this place has a very dark and violent history that they are soon about to become part of. It is a race to morning where the lines between bad and pure evil are blurred and the fight to survive the awakened legend of Camp Crystal Lake is much more than they bargained for.

There isn’t yet an official release date attached to Voorhees, but the trailer promises the film will arrive in Spring 2019. You can keep up with the film’s progress by joining the Voorhees Facebook group!
