Some of the most intriguing horror games are the ones which have never been released. Let’s cry a little inside as we go through ten of the most promising horror video games that we’ll never, ever get to play.
9Demonik (Xbox 360)
In the 2006 stoner comedy film Grandma’s Boy, Allen Covert stars as a video game tester forced to move in with his grandmother. It is revealed that he is developing his very own video game called Demonik, and footage from the game can be seen in the film. It’s very vital to the plot, with the characters arguing about who the true creator of the game really is. While Demonik seems to be completely fictional, the fact is that we were all very close to actually being able to play it for ourselves.
From developer Terminal Reality and publisher Majesco, the Demonik game shown in the film was actually in development. Perhaps what was most appealing about the game more than anything was that it was written by horror legend Clive Barker. Players would be taking the role of a demonic presence summoned by humans seeking revenge, with the goal of carrying out bloody vengeance for these people.
Clearly, enough work was done on the title to produce several video clips and images from it. Unfortunately, Demonik was then axed prior to its release, with Majesco citing financial concerns. Worse yet, Barker was intending to continue its story with a movie, but after the game’s cancellation, those plans quickly fizzled.
