Sunday saw Xbox take the stage during Summer Game Fest to show us everything they have coming and what’s in the pipeline. We got to see looks at games we knew about, games that were hinted at but not confirmed, and total surprises. Here we break down our top 10 announcements from the Xbox Games Showcase 2023. Take a look!
33 Immortals
33 Immortals is an upcoming action-roguelike from Thunder Lotus Games that boasts an unfathomable co-op mode allowing up to 33 people to team up! The game puts the players in the shoes of a damned soul unhappy with God’s final judgment and ready to rebel. Players will be able to team up and orchestrate raids and fight off hordes of demons, square off against massive bosses, and ultimately stand up against God’s wrath.
The game will release via early access in 2024 on Xbox Series X/S (and Game Pass day one) and PC via Epic Games Store. Again, 33-person co-op? That’s bonkers.
South Of Midnight
We didn’t get much shown off regarding South Of Midnight from Compulsion Games at the Xbox Games Showcase 2023, but what we know about it excites us. In South Of Midnight, players will control Hazel in a world full of monsters and magic. In the short clip, Hazel can be seen approaching a giant skeleton-ish man playing guitar in a swampy-looking bayou, asking for help in slaying a monster. The clip showcased the art style we can expect from the game, and that claymation-esque style mixed with the game’s setting and themes makes this a title we can’t wait to play.

Compulsion Games is the studio behind We Happy Few and Contrast and is one of the many studios brought under the Xbox Games Studios umbrella in the last several years. South Of Midnight will come to Xbox Series X/S and PC, as well as Game Pass on day one, whenever it launches in the near future.
Clockwork Revolution
From inXile Entertainment, another internal Xbox Studio, Clockwork Revolution is a first-person RPG set against the steampunk backdrop of Avalon, a carefully crafted Metropolis influenced by the alteration of historical events. If you haven’t guessed yet, Clockwork Revolution’s core mechanic is time-bending.
Following the showcase, Brian Fargo from inXile Entertainment shared some more info on the game:
“This is a fantastical, first-person action RPG, with dynamic time-bending combat, deep interconnected roleplaying systems, and the ability to create your own unique character from the ground up,”
Clockwork Revolution doesn’t have a release date yet, as Fargo described what we saw at the Xbox conference as a pre-alpha sneak peek. When the game does come out, it’ll launch on Xbox Series X/S and PC with a day-one launch on Game Pass.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
Although many of us have a love/hate relationship with Cyberpunk 2077, we have to admit that the upcoming DLC, “Phantom Liberty,” looks like a lot of fun. The premise may be shamelessly ripped from Escape From New York, but the fact that CDPR is doing what they should have done with Cyberpunk and are releasing it on next-gen only, we may have a better experience on our hands.
Also, we can’t wait to hear Idris Elba’s sultry voice as we’re flatlining gonks and making chooms. Also, Keanu Reeves’ excitement during Xbox Games Showcase 2023 sold us all over again.
Avowed
Obsidian’s upcoming fantasy first-person RPG looks like it’ll scratch that Elder Scrolls itch, especially since Elder Scrolls VI is nowhere to be seen. In Avowed, players will take the reins of Aedyr as they investigate the rumblings of a potential plague. With the tagline “Forge Your Destiny,” Avowed feels like a return to form for a true RPG game from Obsidian, allowing players to go down the path of good… or evil.
In the gameplay released, we got to see our first glimpses of combat, magic, and the ability to wield swords and guns. Avowed is coming to Xbox Series X/S and PC sometime in 2024.
Fable
Finally! Finally, we get Fable news. In a beautiful trailer, we’re introduced to a character played by Richard Ayoade (IT Crowd) as he sets the stage for us, the viewers. Ayoade plays Dave, a character we find out has no love for heroes describing them as ‘wafters’ and no different from every main character before them. We also find out something massive about Dave, so be sure to check out the trailer.
Fable was introduced to the world through a cinematic trailer in 2020, but thankfully, the studio is taking its time. The game will release on Xbox Series X/S, with day one release on Game Pass, at a date yet to be announced.
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II
Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is still one of the most outstanding games we’ve played, and we’re finally getting that sequel. The first game was an absolute treat from both visual and audio standpoints, and the new trailer leads us to assume we’ll be eating good when it comes out.
The new trailer, captured entirely on the Xbox Series X, boasted incredible graphics and sound, which is reassuring since it was captured entirely in-engine. First announced in 2019, Hellblade II will come out sometime in 2024 on the Xbox Series X/S.
Star Wars: Outlaws
As the first open-world Star Wars game, Star Wars: Outlaws looks like it’s picking up the pieces where the lost but never forgotten Star Wars: 1313 left off, and it looks promising. The Star Wars: Outlaws gameplay trailer highlights the protagonist, Kay Vess, as she escapes a Pyke Syndicate facility using stealth and her environment to traverse the building.

Star Wars: Outlaws will launch in 2024 on Xbox Series X/S, PC, and PlayStation 5.
Starfield
We learned about Starfield’s gameplay, and it can become one of this generation’s most influential video games. Bethesda knows this, and they’re obviously putting in the work necessary to cement the game’s legacy.
The amount of stuff we can do in this game is unfathomable without feeling overwhelming. From the character maker to the almost infinite possibilities in ship designing, this is a game we can sink hundreds of hours into with no problem. Starfield is one of our most anticipated games of the year.
The title will launch on Xbox Series X/S and PC on September 6th, 2023. Check out Bethesda’s deep dive on Starfield here!
Game Pass Day One Titles
Yes, we know Game Pass is a thing, but the number of games we saw during Xbox Games Showcase 2023 with the splash screen “Coming Day One To Game Pass” is astounding. For $20 a month, you can try all these games without the commitment of paying for them outright.
Fable, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, Avowed, Clockwork Revolution, South of Midnight, 33 Immortals, and Starfield are all day-one Game Pass releases. There’s no deal in gaming like Game Pass, and Xbox continues to prove that.
