Jason Voorhees may be the star of the Friday the 13th series, but its biggest fans still fondly remember his mother Pamela. Fantastically played by Betsy Palmer in the original movie, Mrs. Voorhees was a heartbroken mother turned cold-blooded murderer following the presumed drowning of her son at Camp Crystal Lake. She would ultimately meet her demise in the end of the first film, but would have various cameos in other installments by way of hallucinations and dream sequences.
One such moment happens in the end Friday the 13th Part III, after final girl Chris Higgins (Dana Kimmell) kills Jason. The morning after the massacre, Chris rests in a canoe, envisions Jason rushing towards her in an apparent hallucination. Moments later, he vanishes, only for a zombie version of his mother to emerge from the lake. She grabs Chris and pulls her under, leading to the ending of the film with Chris being taken away by the police. Like her son seconds before, this Mrs. Voorhees is a creation in the mind of Chris, brought about as a result of the extreme trauma the sole survivor just endured.
For fans of the third movie, this scene can be immortalized forever by way of a new action figure from NECA. On Twitter, the collectible company has unveiled their zombie Pamela Voorhees figure, depicting her as the “lady in the lake” shown in the end of Part III. Although we’ve seen Mrs. Voorhees from the original movie in action figure form, it’s worth noting this will be the first official figure for the rotting version of the character we see in the second sequel.
