MGM

For better or for worse, MGM’s Orion Pictures is bringing us a Child’s Play remake. The concept has been criticized by fans of the original franchise as well as Chucky’s creator, Don Mancini. Some people are arguing that a reboot isn’t necessary, considering Mancini still has plans to continue the established canon of the movies in an upcoming TV series. At the same time, others are intrigued to see a modern take on the original story. Either way, Hollywood’s new Chucky will be hitting the big screen on June 19, 2019.

As we haven’t seen much from the film itself yet, fans have only gotten limited glimpses at the new Chucky doll. It wasn’t clear whether modern CGI would be used for the doll’s movements, as opposed to the practical FX used in the original. Fortunately, it has now been confirmed that the new doll will be “fully animatronic” in an image posted on the official Twitter account for the movie. As noted, there are fans of the original unwilling to see a reboot of the movie. Still, the idea of seeing a fully animatronic Chucky on the big screen in 2019 seems pretty awesome. Brad Dourif will be sorely missed as the voice of the killer doll, but fans can still look forward to him reprising the role in Mancini’s planned TV series. In the meantime, a reimagined version of the doll hitting theaters can help keep the franchise fresh until the Chucky series goes into production.

Child’s Play will be hitting theaters on June 21, 2019, which is the same premiere date of Toy Story 4, no less. Which living toy movie will you be watching?
