Unsolved Mysteries is coming back, as Netflix has ordered new episodes of the classic investigative series. Originally running for 500 episodes across multiple iterations, the series aired new episodes on television between 1987 and 2010. Now, Stranger Things executive producer Shawn Levy will bring the series to Netflix through his company 21 Laps Entertainment. Show creators John Cosgrove and Terry Dunn Meurer will also be involved, with, with Cosgrove running the series. For its initial season, Netflix has ordered 12 episodes.
Like the original series, the new Unsolved Mysteries will use re-enactments to chronicle various mysteries which have perplexed investigators. Topics will range from true crime to paranormal events with everything in between. Interviews with family members and investigators will also be featured on the show as it pertains to each case. What will be different about this new Netflix iteration is that each episode will only focus on one story, as opposed to the original which often tackled multiple cases per show.
It’s not clear if the series will have a new host. Originally, Robert Stack served as the host of the show, recording new episodes as late as 2002 before his death in 2003. Dennis Farina would later replace Stack for the Lifetime revival of the show between 2008 and 2010. Farina has since passed away as well, meaning if a new host is used for the Netflix version, a new person will have to be used.
No word yet on when the Unsolved Mysteries revival will air on Netflix. As always, stay tuned for more updates. We really appreciate this classic series here at Horror Geek Life, and we’ll be watching its progress closely. Hopefully, it will be out by the end of the year, and if they want to make it really amazing, they’ll include the classic theme song from the original version of the show.
