Horror filmmaker and special effects artist Joe Castro has revealed that he will be a part of the upcoming fan film Friday the 13th: Vengeance. Known for doing some amazing work in the genre, Castro has provided the FX for dozens of horror movies. Additionally, he has directed many unique films himself, including the films in the Terror Toons series. Next, he’ll be delivering the gore for the highly-anticipated Friday the 13th fan film.
Fan films like Vengeance help keep the spirit of Jason Voorhees alive while we wait for the character’s eventual return to the big screen. Made by Friday the 13th fans for Friday the 13th fans, what we’ve seen so far of Vengeance in sneak peek photos and the first trailer has looked great. Now, it’s clear they want the FX to look as fantastic as possible as well, as the inclusion of Castro on the project proves.

On Facebook, Castro says he cannot wait to work with his “new amazing movie family” in March, which means he’ll be on the Vengeance set very soon. Giving fans a sneak peek at what’s to come, Castro also posted a photo of Jason Voorhees actor Jason Brooks being life-casted for the film for a gruesome death scene. “I am truly humbled to be apart of this amazing production!” Castro says in the caption. “I want to thank Don Schell For including me in this project and the entire production team for allowing me to be a part of this very important fan film!”
Friday the 13th: Vengeance will also include the final performance of Steve Dash, who was the first person to bring the adult Jason Voorhees to life by playing the character in Friday the 13th: Part II. Dash sadly passed away shortly after shooting a role for Vengeance, which will see him portraying a police officer. An official release date is not yet set for Vengeance, but it’s likely to release sometime this year.
