For the first time in nearly two decades, Joe Bob Briggs will be hosting his own weekly TV series for Shudder. Turning The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs specials he’s previously done for the streaming service into a weekly series, each episode will present double features of Joe Bob’s personal picks. With a nine episode order, Shudder will air the series every week from Friday, March 29 until Friday, May 24, at 9:00 p.m. EST. Of course, the episodes will later be available to stream on the service.
The last time Briggs had hosted weekly television, it was in the year 2000. That was when he did his final episode of MonsterVision for TNT, much to the detriment of horror fans everywhere. When he made his comeback on Shudder last year and “broke the internet” in doing so, it was made clear that fans still love Briggs just as much now as we did 20 years ago. It seemed like a win-win for both Shudder and the fans to bring Joe Bob back full time, and it’s nice to see that it’s only a few weeks away!
Per Bloody Disgusting, Briggs spoke about the weekly series for The Last Drive-In and what fans can expect to see from it.
“We’ve had The Last Drive-In 24-hour marathon, The Last Drive-In Thanksgiving marathon, and The Last Drive-In Christmas marathon, but the Shudder audience kept asking for some kind of programming that didn’t require sleep deprivation and controlled substances. The double features we chose for the weekly series range over five decades and include everything from classics to obscurities to foreign cult offerings, with a handful of guests who have agreed to play around with us in our Texas trailer park. I don’t want to say we got carried away with the possibilities here, but we kind of got carried away with the possibilities here.”
