Will Finn Wolfhard and Carrie Coon lead the cast of next year’s Ghostbusters sequel? According to a new report from Deadline, the two are in talks to do so. While full details on the plot or the characters have yet to be revealed, the word is the two would play a mother and son in the movie. It’s not yet clear how they wind up getting involved with the titular team of ghoul-hunters, but we can expect Wolfhard’s character to put on the proton pack.
Reportedly, director Jason Reitman was looking to avoid casting any talent from Stranger Things for the new movie, given the similarities between them. However, Wolfhard’s audition was said to be so good that both Reitman and the studio executives “were blown away.” In Season 2 of the Netflix series, Wolfhard had worn a Ghostbusters costume for Halloween, so it wouldn’t be his first time putting on the suit.
Wolfhard is probably best known for his lead roles on both the big and small screens. In addition to starring on the smash Netflix hit series Stranger Things, the young actor also had a prominent role in It, which is one of the most successful horror movies of all time. His potential Ghostbusters 3 co-star Coon has also given some great performances on TV shows like Fargo and The Sinner, but can also be seen in movies like Avengers: Infinity War.
While we wait for these casting choices to be made official, we can still look forward to seeing Wolfhard and Coon in other projects. Wolfhard will be reprising his role as Richie Tozier in this falls It: Chapter Two, which is expected to be tremendously successful like the first. He can also be seen in Season 3 of Stranger Things when it premieres in July. As for Coon, you can catch her co-starring with Jude Law in the upcoming drama The Nest.
