South by Southwest Conference and Festivals (SXSW) is upon us, and, as always, the Film Festival has some great things in store for the horror genre. Here are the most anticipated films genre fans can look forward to.
1Us
One of the most anticipated films coming out this year is kicking off the SXSW Film Festival. Us was written and directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Jordan Peele and stars Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, and Elisabeth Moss. The film follows a family who get attacked by doppelgängers of themselves.

2Pet Sematary
Closing out the festival is another extremely anticipated 2019 film, the remake of Stephen King’s Pet Sematary. Starring Jason Clarke, Amy Seimetz, and John Lithgow, the film follows a family who move to a rural town and discover a mysterious graveyard capable of bringing back those who are buried there.

3Little Monsters
Lupita Nyong’o will have two horror films screen in as many days, with both Us and the zombie comedy Little Monsters. Written and directed by Abe Forsythe, the film follows Nyong’o’s character, Miss Caroline, a kindergarten teacher who finds herself in the middle of a zombie outbreak during a field trip with her students.

4Body At Brighton Rock
Body At Brighton Rock is from writer and director Roxanne Benjamin and stars Karina Fontes as a young park ranger named Wendy who finds herself lost on a mountain trail with a dead body overnight.

5Tone-Deaf
Richard Bates, Jr.’s new film, Tone-Deaf stars Robert Patrick as a deranged baby boomer who wants to rid the world of millennials. When cliché millennial Olive (Amanda Crew) stays at his rental home for a weekend, she becomes his target.

6I’m Just Fucking With You
I’m Just Fucking With You, directed by Adam Mason, is the seventh installment in Blumhouse Television and Hulu’s Into the Dark series and takes on April Fool’s Day. The film follows a serial killer (Hayes MacArthur) who uses practical jokes to torment his victims (Keir O’Donnell, Jessica McNamee).

7Girl On The Third Floor
From writer and director Travis Stevens, Don Koch (C.M. Punk) takes on the task of renovating a large old house, however it seems that the house has other plans.

8Darlin’
A feral teenager is taken to a Catholic home to get “tamed,” however they discover that she has dark secrets and doesn’t travel alone. Director Pollyanna McIntosh’s film is a continuation of Lucky McKee’s 2011 film The Woman.

9Boyz In The Wood
Written and directed by Ninian Doff, Boyz In The Wood is a comedy/horror starring Eddie Izzard, Kate Dickie, and James Cosmo. The film is set deep in the Scottish Highlands and is an “anarchic cocktail of generational politics, hip-hop loving farmers, and hallucinogenic rabbit shites.”

10Daniel Isn’t Real
From director Adam Egypt Mortimer, Daniel Isn’t Real follows a young man who deals with trauma through an imaginary friend, who manipulates him into going down a dark path.

11What We Do in the Shadows
Although this entry isn’t a movie, we have to mention the premiere of the pilot episode of FX’s What We Do in the Shadows. The TV series, directed by Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement, follows in the same vein as the hit 2014 film, but stars a new cast. The show follows three ancient roommate vampires living their life in modern-day New York City.
