The announcement so many Supernatural fans have dreaded is finally here. The show which made us believe in angels, demons, and the Winchesters will officially come to an end after season 15. Jensen Ackles, who plays Dean Winchester, broke the news on his Instagram account alongside fellow cast members Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins.
“We just told the crew that though we’re very, very excited about moving in to our 15th season, it will be our last. Fifteen years of a show that has certainly changed my life, I know it’s changed these two guys’ life. And we just wanted you to hear from us that though we’re excited about next year, it will be the finale. The big, grand finale of an institution.” – Jensen Ackles
Supernatural debuted on on The WB on September 13, 2005, and is now part of The CW’s Thursday night lineup. Created by Eric Kripke, the show features the Winchester brothers (Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki) as they hunt demons, angels, vampires, ghosts, and other supernatural beings while saving the world and trying not to die…again. Over the course of the show, they are aided by their loyal friend and angel, Castiel (Misha Collins), as well as family, friends, and fellow hunters.
The show is currently in its 14th season and just aired episode 303, “Don’t Go in the Woods,” this week. So far, just as with season 13, Supernatural season 14 is a hit with fans and critics alike, currently holding a 90% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes while season 13 holds an impressive 100% rating. Obviously, the writers and directors have done a great job making the show still feel fresh even 300 episodes in. The good news about the series ending on its own and while at a high point is that the crew can ensure that faithful viewers get the closure that we will need as we say goodbye to the Winchesters and company.
