American Horror Story will return to FX this fall with all new episodes, and creator Ryan Murphy has revealed the official title and theme for Season 9. As always, details on the show have been tight-lipped, and only now do we have some insight as to what the show will be. In a new teaser video posted to his Instagram account, Murphy reveals that the new season will be called American Horror Story: 1984, suggesting the new episodes will be set in the golden age of the slasher era.
Murphy’s teaser video plays out like a classic slasher movie, with a killer stalking a potential victim. Armed with a knife, the murderer chases a terrified woman as somber music plays. Before he can manage to claim her as his next victim, the new title for Season 9 is shown on the screen as AHS: 1984. Beyond that, no information has been made available about the new season’s particular plot.
Not much else is known about the cast of 1984 yet. What we know for sure is Emma Roberts will be headlining the season, with Olympian Gus Kenworthy playing her boyfriend. Sadly, Evan Peters recently confirmed he will be sitting the upcoming season out, making 1984 the first season since the start of the show to be without the fan favorite actor. However, it’s important to note he isn’t done with the series for good – we just won’t be seeing him in Season 9.
