Robert Englund has been announced as the host of the upcoming TV series Shadows of History for the Travel Channel. He will be joining fellow horror genre stare Bruce Campbell on the network, who revealed back in January he’d be hosting Travel’s relaunch of Ripley’s Believe It or Not!. Now if we can just find another creepy show for Kane Hodder to host for the Travel Channel, then we’ll be set!
For Shadows of History, Englund will be investigating various stories to be found from American history. Scouring over old newspapers from across the United States, Englund and his team of scholars and historians will be looking into some of the most creepy, odd, and unusual tales to have ever been covered by journalists. They’ll be digging deep into each story, tracking them down to see if they can find a rational explanation for these printed news stories – or if the truth will just make things even more bizarre.
Travel Channel GM Jane Latman confirmed Englund’s arrival to the network in an official statement. “How can you make fascinating and petrifying stories even more scary? Add the genius of Robert Englund,” Latman says. “As if tales of flying monsters, zombie cannibals and ghost ships were not enough, we are cranking up the volume for maximum impact. And our fans are going to go nuts for this legendary actor.”
We saw Englund reprise the role of Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street just last fall on the Halloween special for The Goldbergs. He has also teased he would be open to playing Freddy in one more movie as well, should the opportunity come along. For now, something we can definitely look forward to is seeing hosting Shadows of History on the Travel Channel sometime this year. You can read more at THR.
