Back in 2017 during E3, Days Gone creative director John Garvin and actor Sam Witwer (Star Wars: The Clone Wars) showed off an alternate playthrough of the game that gave us a better look at many features, including the dynamic weather effects. Now in a new video posted on reddit, we get to see the weather changes in real-time during gameplay, and it looks fantastic.

Not only does the look of the environment change, but the weather and time of day affects gameplay as well. Snow-covered streets will influence how protagonist Deacon St. John’s main mode of transportation, the Drifter Bike, rides and handles. It also adds enhanced dangers as the cannibalistic ravenous creatures, what the game refers to as Freakers, not only get stronger, but come out during the daytime. The noise of falling rain can hinder a player’s ability to hear oncoming threats. Nighttime brings even more Freakers and also changes the way Marauders, or hostile outbreak survivors, behave. Typically, Freakers will be slower and more docile during the day and quicker and more aggressive at night.

The open world horror survival game will be exclusive to the PS4 and releases in just a few days, on April 26th.

Synopsis: Play as Deacon St. John, a Drifter and bounty hunter who would rather risk the dangers of the broken road than live in one of the “safe” wilderness encampments. The game takes place two years after a global pandemic has killed almost everyone, but transformed millions of others into what survivors call Freakers – mindless, feral creatures, more animal than human but very much alive and quickly evolving.
