We never knew we needed a musical adaptation of James Cameron’s sci-fi classic The Terminator, but Terminator: The Musical is proving that we do. As it sounds, the show will be a musical parody inspired by both the original Terminator film and its sequel Terminator 2: Judgement Day. A trailer for the show has also been released, and if the program is as enjoyable as it appears to be in the sneak peek, it will definitely leave audiences saying, “I’ll be back.”
The show is written and directed by Breanna Bietz, with musical direction from Mars Wright. Maci McFarlin is providing the choreography. Listed in the cast are Lena Long, Robert Slack, JP Bremer, Kyle Irion, Caitlin French, Chelsea Beth, Kathryn Lane, Jon McMahan, and Mars Wright, though it’s not yet clear who will be playing which Terminator characters. Judging from the early photos and new trailer, however, it’s clear those behind the scenes are big fans of the films, and that should hopefully translate well during the performance.
Of course, The Terminator isn’t the only ’80s movie to be given an unexpected musical adaptation. The Toxic Avenger also has a stage show inspired by the classic Troma movie, which has been met with positive reviews. A Beetlejuice musical has also been recently created, which looks awesome as well. Certainly, credit must also be given to the students of North Bergen High School, who adapted Alien into a stage show put on at the school. That project has gotten so much attention that franchise star Sigourney Weaver even showed up at the school on Alien Day to congratulate the performers.
