Remastered ‘Ghostbusters: The Video Game’ Arrives This Year

Atari

Originally released in 2009, Ghostbusters: The Video Game is getting an all-new remastered version for modern consoles. Better yet, we won’t have to wait long to play the updated version of the 10-year-old game, as it will be available later this year. It will reportedly be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PS4, so whichever console you want to play it on will be entirely up to you.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game is basically the closest thing fans ever had to an official Ghostbusters 3. It features the actual voices of stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and the late Harold Ramis all reprising their roles as Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Winston Zeddemore, and Egon Spangler, respectively. Set two years after Ghostbusters II in 1981, players control a new recruit of the Ghostbusters team, busting ghosts alongside the famous characters from the original movies. Basically, the idea is for you to feel like you are actually a Ghostbuster in 1991, and it’s hard not to feel that way when playing the game.

Ultimately, a film version of Ghostbusters 3 with all four Ghostbusters returning never came to fruition, despite the best efforts of Aykroyd and Ramis. By the time a new sequel finally started to make traction, Ramis sadly passed away, leading to Sony’s decision to reboot the franchise in 2016. Now, those who missed out on playing Ghostbusters: The Video Game the first time around will have another chance to appreciate Ramis’ final performance as Egon.

Jason Reitman will be releasing his Ghostbusters movie sequel in 2020, although it will focus primarily on a new set of characters. While Ramis will obviously not be included, the other lead actors from the original films will likely reprise their roles in some capacity. Until then, gamers can appreciate Ghostbusters: The Video Game remastered when it arrives later this year.
