Back when Hideo Kojima was still apart of Konami, he was working on a new game in the Silent Hill franchise called Silent Hills. In August of 2014, Konami released PT (Playable Teaser), that showed a lot of promise and acted as the teaser/announcement for Silent Hills. The project included Kojima alongside Guillermo del Toro and The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus. Unfortunately PT was taken down from the PlayStation store in April 2015 and subsequently canceled.

Now, Kojima’s debut project since his departure from Konami (back in 2015) has finally received a release date. Death Stranding is Kojima’s biggest project to date and has some pretty big names attached. Guillermo del Toro is reuniting with the creator, as is Reedus. Mads Mikkelsen, is also along for the ride, as he joined the project a few years ago.

Coupled with the release date and a new 9-minute super-weird trailer, Kojima issued this statement regarding the themes explored in the game:

People have created “Walls” and become accustomed to living in isolation.“Death Stranding” is a completely new type of action game, where the goal of the player is to reconnect isolated cities and a fragmented society. It is created so that all elements, including the story and gameplay, are bound together by the theme of the “Strand” or connection. As Sam Porter Bridges, you will attempt to bridge the divides in society, and in doing create new bonds or “Strands” with other players around the globe. Through your experience playing the game, I hope you’ll come to understand the true importance of forging connections with others.

Death Stranding will star Norman Reedus, Guillermo del Toro, Mads Mikkelsen, Lea Seydoux, Lindsay Wagner, Troy Baker, and Margaret Qualley with mo-cap, face scanning, and vocal performances. The game will release on November 8th, 2019 exclusively on PlayStation 4. There is a collectors edition available to pre-order that comes with some cool stuff like in-game customization options, a keychain, a carrying case modeled after one you’d see in the game, a lifesize baby in a pod, and the game in a custom steelbook.
