During E3 week, Microsoft announced another batch of games coming to the Xbox One backward compatibility program. They also announced that these would be the final games added, and they will be discontinuing the initiative.
Microsoft took to their blog to say:
After this week, we have no plans to add additional Original Xbox or Xbox 360 titles to the catalog on Xbox One.
The reason for the sudden stoppage of games is that they want to ensure that they can make the same games they made backward compatible for the Xbox One also backward compatible on the Scarlett.

Of course, it makes sense that it would take a lot of resources to make games from 2003 playable on a console coming out in 2020, but I still find it a bit disappointing that we were never given more of the amazing original Xbox games that we all loved to play 12+years ago.
The final batch of original Xbox games getting the backward compatibility treatment are:
- Armed and Dangerous
- Indiana Jones and the Emperor’s Tomb
- Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy
- Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell
- Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow
- Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Chaos Theory
- Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Double Agent
- Unreal Championship 2: The Liandri Conflict
As for Xbox 360 games, the final ones being added are:
- Asura’s Wrath
- Battlefield 2: Modern Combat
- Enchanted Arms
- Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
- Far Cry Classic
- Far Cry Instincts Predator
- Infinite Undiscovery
- Peter Jackson’s King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie
- Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands
- Skate
- Star Ocean: The Last Hope
- Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo
- Syndicate
- Too Human (which will be free)
- Unreal Tournament III
This is probably sad news to a lot of players, but it’s bittersweet as we will hopefully have an equally amazing roster of backward compatible titles when the Scarlett launches next year.
