After the less-than-impressive success of previous Nintendo consoles like the Wii-U, we have seen the Nintendo Switch launch with huge success. This was due to many factors, one of which is the release of Breath of the Wild, the latest in the Zelda franchise and Nintendo’s biggest venture into an open-world game.
Alongside one of the biggest games of the current generation, though, Nintendo brought out the world’s first hybrid console that can be used as a home platform or a portable; which has now reached over 34 million units sold and become home to a fantastic library of both Nintendo, third party and indie games.
After seeing a couple of different special editions of the very successful console, varying from Pokémon to Diablo, Nintendo has announced the newest model of the Nintendo Switch, called the Nintendo Switch Lite. This version is aimed at the portable gaming audience who have no need for the dock. To be clear, the Switch Lite will be a handheld device only, unable to be plugged into the television.

The Switch Lite comes equipped with:
- An all-in-one build, with no more removable Joy-Cons, also limiting games to those that support handheld mode – which is generally shown on the back of the case and on the eShop page for the title.
- A slightly smaller screen, 5.5 inches, and also a touch screen.
- Finally, we see the left side of the controller come with an actual D-pad.
The Switch Lite also lacks the IR and HD rumble features, which is sure to disappoint many. But the console will come in a few different colors, something the original Switch has yet to do, and a cheap release price of $199.99 (USD). This version is sure to be a hit and boost sales even further, with the perfectly timed release for the new Zelda and Pokémon games.
