The 1997 sci-fi horror film Event Horizon is getting a small screen reboot, as Amazon and Paramount Television are developing a TV series adaptation. Per Variety, the series will be made available to stream on Amazon Prime, but an official release date hasn’t yet been revealed. You’re Next helmer Adam Wingard is also attached to direct the series, and will be executive producing alongside Jeremy Platt and original film producers Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin.
Horror fans will recognize Wingard’s name from a variety of projects. His slasher flick You’re Next gets a lot of attention, and he’s also directed movies like Blair Witch, Death Note, and The Guest. Come next year, the filmmaker will be more popular than ever, as his next movie Godzilla vs. Kong will hit theaters on March 13, 2020. Helming a project all but guaranteed to be a blockbuster hit only means we’ll be seeing much more of Wingard’s moving in the years ahead.
Directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, the original film starred Sam Neill and Laurence Fishburne. Though it underperformed at the box office, the film has since developed a cult following over the years and was perhaps just ahead of its time.
