Best known for playing a variety of bad guys throughout his acting career, Danny Trejo has proven himself to be a real-life hero. On Wednesday afternoon in Los Angeles, the actor was nearby when two cars collided, leaving one overturned. In the car, a young child with special needs was trapped inside, strapped into a car seat. Immediately, Trejo and another unidentified bystander leaped into action to remove the baby from the wreckage.
As reported by ABC, Trejo crawled into the vehicle’s wreckage, but wasn’t able to unbuckle the car seat from that angle. That’s when a young woman who was nearby crawled in from the other side to unbuckle the child, enabling Trejo to safely pull him from the car. Meanwhile, the young boy’s grandmother was trapped in the front seat, and it would take the use of firefighters’ equipment to free her.
As he works with special-needs children, Trejo remained with the boy to keep him calm and distracted while firefighters worked on removing his grandmother from the wreckage. “He was panicked. I said OK we have to use our superpowers. So he screamed ‘superpowers’ and we started yelling ‘superpowers.’ I said do this, with the muscles. He said ‘muscles,'” Trejo explains. “We got kind of a bond. I kept facing him away from the accident.”
Not only is @officialDannyT (Danny Trejo) one of the nicest actors, he’s also a #hero!

Full details on the accident itself aren’t clear, but from Trejo’s perspective, it appeared the other vehicle ran a red light, smashing into the boy’s grandmother’s car. As for why he was so quick to rush into action and then stay with the child until his grandma was safe, Trejo had an explanation for that too. “Everything good that has happened to me has happened as a direct result of helping someone else. Everything,” the legendary actor said of the experience.
And we thought we couldn’t love Danny Trejo any more than we already did. For more from Trejo, you can catch him as the voice of Boots in Dora and the Lost City of Gold in theaters this weekend!
