This year marks a significant milestone for the Telluride Horror Show, as the film festival celebrates its tenth installment. Far removed from existing in the shadow of the long-running Telluride Film Festival, Telluride Horror Show has carved out its own niche as one of the most highly anticipated horror fests in the U.S. And this year’s edition of Telluride Horror Show looks likely to be its best yet.

The first wave of films to be shown at THS has been announced and the big highlight of the weekend will be a special screening of the modern classic horror-comedy Tucker & Dale vs. Evil with director Eli Craig in attendance. In case you’ve been living in an isolated cabin, the 2011 flick is an ultra smart send-up of killer redneck/cabin in the woods movies. Following the film, there will be a Q & A session with Craig hosted by none other than horror hound favorite and host of Shudder’s The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs! Briggs will also be bringing his roadshow, How Rednecks Saved Hollywood, to THS along with The Last Drive-In co-star Darcy the Mail Girl.

In addition to Tucker & Dale, THS will feature an impressive lineup of films by a variety of acclaimed filmmakers. One of these is a film that has been getting a lot of positive buzz on the festival circuit, director Travis Stevens’ Girl on the Third Floor. Starring former WWE Champion Phil “CM Punk” Brooks, the film tells the tale of a husband who decides to renovate a newly purchased Victorian home by himself, only to find that he is in way, way over his head.

Telluride Horror Show alum Justin Harding returns with his first feature film, Making Monsters. Co-directed with Rob Brunner, the film finds a celebrity husband and wife famous for YouTube pranks spending the weekend at a friend’s converted countryside church. As you can probably guess, things don’t exactly go as planned.

Another pair of alums, directors Brett and Drew Pierce, bring their first feature as well, The Wretched. In the film, a teen boy, struggling with his parents’ divorce, is forced to confront a thousand year-old witch posing as his next-door neighbor.

One film that sounds absolutely bonkers is director Joe Begos’ VFW. Featuring an impressive ensemble cast that includes Stephen Lang (Avatar, Don’t Breathe), William Sadler (Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, The Shawshank Redemption), Martin Kove (The Karate Kid, Cobra Kai), George Wendt (Cheers, House), Fred Williamson (From Dusk Till Dawn), and David Patrick Kelly (Twin Peaks), VFW tells the story of a group of Vietnam vets forced to defend their V.F.W. post from a crazed drug dealer and his punk mutants.

Other films include Z (director Brandon Chistensen) which features a family menaced by their son’s imaginary friend, Sator (director Jordan Graham), about a family observed by a supernatural entity in a barren, secluded forest, 1BR (director David Marmor), a film about a woman who moves into the perfect Hollywood apartment that turns out to not be quite as it seems, She Never Dies (director Audrey Cummings), a sequel to He Never Died, a 2015 THS selection, and Mutant Blast, a Troma Entertainment film from director Fernando Alle about a scientific experiment that goes terribly awry.

Of course, there will be more films announced in the coming weeks. Keep an eye on their website, https://www.telluridehorrorshow.com, for more news about this year’s films. Horror Geek Life will once again be covering the Telluride Horror Show this year, taking place October 11-13. See you there!
