Jared Padalecki to Lead ‘Walker, Texas Ranger’ Reboot

Supernatural might be coming to an close at the end of its upcoming season, but star Jared Padalecki has already lined up a starring role in a reboot of the Chuck Norris series Walker, Texas Ranger. As reported by Deadline, Anna Fricke (Valor) is writing and executive producing a re-imagining of the classic show, with Padalecki also exec producing. The project is currently being shopped around with various networks, with The CW and CBS both named as possible homes for the planned TV series.

In the reboot, Walker is given a new female partner, with the series exploring “morality, family, and rediscovering our lost common ground.” Padalecki will play Cordell Walker, the role originally portrayed by Chuck Norris in the original series from Albert S. Ruddy and Leslie Greif. A synopsis for the series has also been revealed, per Deadline.

Synopsis: Our broken widower and father of two returns home to Austin after being undercover for two years for a high profile case – only to discover that there’s even more work to be done at home. In a nod to the original series, Walker and his new partner — one of the only women in Texas Rangers’ history — are the modern day heroes our world needs, following their own moral code to fight for what’s right, regardless of the rules.

Supernatural will officially end after the show’s fifteenth and final season, which will start to air on Oct. 10. It’s been an amazing ride for the series and its fans, but it’s nice to see Padalecki already has his next gig lined up. Hopefully co-star Jensen Ackles will soon do the same, as fans of the hit long-running series are certainly going to miss the Winchester brothers on television.
