‘Starship Troopers’ is Getting a New PC Game in 2020

Starship Troopers - Terran Command | Slitherine / The Aristocrats

Starship Troopers is getting an all-new video game adaptation for PC, due to arrive on Steam in 2020. The game is developed by The Aristocrats and published by Slitherine in collaboration with Sony Pictures. Set in the same universe of the original film, Starship Troopers – Terran Command will pit players in the center of a human colony overrun by Arachnids. The object of the game will be to “take the fight into bug territory, where they will lead an army of elite soldiers to defeat the alien menace.”

This will actually be the third video game based on the Starship Troopers franchise. In 2000, the tactical wargame Starship Troopers: Terran Ascendancy was released for Windows, taking players from the very start to the end of the war. A first-person shooter simply called Starship Troopers would follow in 2005, which was set five years past the events of the film and featured Casper Van Dien reprising the role of Johnny Rico.

Directed by Paul Verhoeven, the first Starship Troopers movie was released in 1997. It developed a cult following which helped bring about multiple sequels, which includes two live-action follow-ups in 2004 and 2008. Two animated Starship Troopers films were also released in 2012 and 2017. It was also reported in 2016 that a reboot was in the works from screenwriters Mark Swift and Damian Shannon, but the project seems to have died in development hell with no major updates since.

Starship Troopers – Terran Command will be available to play in 2020. You can find out more about the game on Steam, and you can watch the gameplay teaser below.
