The Evil Dead horror franchise is currently dormant, having gone dark following the Starz television series Ash vs. Evil Dead series finale. Since then, a handful of rumors have come to light about where the franchise can go next, which seems to be back to the big screen for an all-new project. The only question now is, what will that next project be exactly?
Sam Raimi took part in a Q&A session with fans on Reddit to promote the new reboot of The Grudge. Of course, it wasn’t long before horror fans asked the legendary filmmaker about Evil Dead and what we can expect from the series next. In particular, one Redditor asked Raimi if we would ever get a sequel to the remake from Fede Alvarez, to which Raimi offered this response:
“If Fede would write or direct it, yes, in a split second!”
That’s a great sign for those wanting to see a follow-up to the 2013 movie, as Raimi is clearly on board and now tossing the ball into Alvarez’s court. Still, as enjoyable as the remake might be, longtime Evil Dead fans are also pining for a new movie with Raimi himself at the helm.

In response, Raimi adds that he would be open to this idea, but he would much rather be able to bring back Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams for such a project, and that is unfortunately no longer an option.
“Bruce, Rob and I are working with a young filmmaker who is writing a new Evil Dead story that he will direct. As for me…. I would love to direct a new Evil Dead movie… but I’d really like to do it with Bruce. And he says he’s retired the character. I hope not.”
It’s not clear at this time if this “new Evil Dead story” will share the same film universe as the previous movies and the Starz show or if it will be a total reimagining of the plot. In any case, it’s always awesome to see new Evil Dead, though Mia and Ash will both be missed.
