Hocus Pocus 2 is in the works at Disney+, and the project has taken another big step forward by officially signing on a director. According to sources at VarietyHairspray director Adam Shankman has been brought in to direct the anticipated sequel, which was written by Workaholics writer Jen D’Angelo. Reportedly, Shankman is already working with Disney to develop a sequel to Enchanted (called Disenchanted), though it remains unclear which project will enter production first.

It has been reported that the Hocus Pocus sequel will be set in the same universe as the original, but the three actresses who starred as the Sanderson Sisters – Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy – have yet to officially sign on to the project. Previously, all three have teased their respective returns for a potential sequel, so it seems likely that they’ll be brought in to appear in the movie in some capacity. It’s more than likely that most fans of the original would vastly prefer this as opposed to a complete reboot.

As of now, there’s no word on when we can expect to see Hocus Pocus 2, but the project is said to be exclusive to Disney+ and won’t be a theatrical release. For now, we’ll just have to stay tuned for more updates. You can pass some of the that time by revisiting the original Hocus Pocus below with the official trailer below.
