Josh Gad has gotten the old gang from The Goonies back together for a “Reunited Apart” cast reunion, and the video is now available online. Amid continued social distancing concerns, the reunion is entirely digital with each of the cast members using webcams for the meeting. Featured in the cast reunion are Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, Josh Brolin, Kerry Green, Martha Plimpton, Ke Huy Quan, and Jeff Cohen. You can watch the Reunited Apart cast reunion for The Goonies below!
Released in 1985, The Goonies follows a group of youths living in the “Goon Docks” as portrayed by the aforementioned cast members. The film sees the children seeking out One-Eyed Willy the pirate’s long-lost treasure while being pursued by the Fratelli crime family. Universally praised, the movie was a big box office hit and is one of the most memorable films from its era.
While The Goonies II technically exists as an original Nintendo video game, no official movie sequels or reboots have ever been released as of this point. Considering the popularity of the classic film and Hollywood’s obsession with relaunching anything that’s found success in the past, that fact is truly a remarkable one. Still, sequel rumors have persisted over the years, and original director Richard Donner has publicly expressed his interest in making another film.
Who knows if that will ever happen, but we are getting a new TV series that features a remake of The Goonies… well, sort of. In February, it was announced that Fox had put in a pilot order for a drama series following a woman coaching film students to create a shot-for-shot remake of the 1985 film. Donner and his wife, Lauren Shuler Donner, are on board as executive producers with Greg Mottola signed on to direct. Stay tuned for future updates on that project!
