It was confirmed earlier on Thursday that Cate Blanchett has officially signed on to play Lilith in Eli Roth’s upcoming Borderlands film. The two have previously worked together on 2018’s The House With a Clock in its Walls.
Lilith is a siren and master thief from the planet Dionysus and one of six powerful sirens. She was part of the Crimson Raiders and was one of the many, many people in Borderlands who were on the hunt for ‘Vaults’. Lilith is a playable character in the first Borderlands game, but took on the NPC role in Borderlands 2, Borderlands 3, and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.

Blanchett has already cemented her role in nerd culture after starring as Galadriel in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, as well as Hela in Thor: Ragnarok. Blanchett has also won Oscars for her roles in Blue Diamond and The Aviator.
The upcoming adaptation will be executive produced by Strauss Zelnick and Randy Pitchford, with Avi Arad, Ari Arad, and Erik Feig signed on as producers. Chernobyl and Scary Movie writer Craig Mazin is also attached as a writer.
Although Borderlands does not yet have a release date, we’re excited to see this talented actress tackle the role of Lilith, but let’s hope she has more lines other than “Hey killer.”
