Resident Evil Village will be arriving on PC and next-gen consoles in 2021, and the official trailer looks pretty promising as it seems to be sticking with an emphasis on horror over action. What’s immediately noticeable is that this might be the coldest game in the series yet, as it will be set in a snowy area where we can expect to see a lot of bloody snow. The film continues the events of Resident Evil VII: Biohazard, and although the terror at Baker’s plantation house is now behind Ethan, a new nightmare is about to begin when Ethan is greeted by another familiar face.

What I love most about the new Village trailer is that feels like the game will be an interactive horror movie. That’s a feeling that had long been forgotten in the Resident Evil franchise as the sequels had become much more action-heavy, and Biohazard returned the series to its survival horror roots with an freaky, original horror story. It looks like Village is taking a similar approach, presenting a new story with Ethan set in the RE universe, though still including nods to the other games to please the longtime fans.
After the success of Capcom’s remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3, there are also reports of the company moving forward with another remake for Resident Evil 4. Now, if we can only get them started on a remake of Code Veronica next, as that’s always been one of the more under-appreciated titles in the series. In any case, there’s still plenty for fans to look forward to from the franchise as of now.
Resident Evil Village will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2021. Courtesy of Capcom, you can check out the official trailer below.
