Today brings in some incredibly awesome news to pass along, as it’s now being reported by Collider that Beavis and Butt-Head is set to return with at least two new seasons on Comedy Central. Series creator Mike Judge will also be returning to work on the series in addition to providing the voices of the lead characters. “It seemed like the time was right to get stupid again,” Judge said of the revival.
Reportedly, the new Beavis and Butt-Head will depict how the metal-loving teenagers would behave in today’s world, which has changed rather drastically since the last time we’ve seen the two. With “meta-themes relatable to both new and old fans — Gen X parents and their Gen Z kids,” the revival is intended to satisfy both longtime fans as well as newcomers to the franchise unfamiliar with the older episodes.
“We are thrilled to be working with Mike Judge and the great team at 3 Arts again as we double down on adult animation at Comedy Central,” says Chris McCarthy, President of Entertainment and Youth Group at Comedy Central, in a press release. “Beavis and Butt-Head were a defining voice of a generation, and we can’t wait to watch as they navigate the treacherous waters of a world light-years from their own.”
One of the most controversial television programs of the ’90s, Beavis and Butt-Head originally aired on MTV for seven seasons. A movie adaptation, Beavis and Butt-Head Do America, was also produced. In 2011, MTV aired an eighth season of the series with many new episodes which have since been released on DVD and Blu-ray. Judge had been looking for a new home for the series since, and now it appears that the prayers from the fans hoping to see another revival have finally been answered.
There’s no word yet on when the new Beavis and Butt-Head will premiere, but for now, you can check out a clip from the 2011 revival below.
