Live-Action ‘Frosty the Snowman’ Movie Casts Jason Momoa

Frosty the Snowman (Universal Studios) / Aquaman (Warner Bros.)

Jason Momoa will play a magical, talking snowman in an upcoming live-action movie adaptation of the classic holiday story Frosty the Snowman. While Momoa is a very talented actor capable of playing both heroes and villains to absolute perfection, this is still not something I ever imagined myself writing up. Still, the concept is very intriguing, and while Momoa probably wouldn’t have been the first name I’d have thought of when casting a new Frosty, I’ve quickly found myself already on board.

According to Deadline, Momoa will produce and star in a new take on Frosty the Snowman, featuring a CGI Frosty in a real-world environment. Momoa will be providing the voice of Frosty in the movie. Alongside Momoa, producing the movie are Jon Berg and Greg Silverman of Stampede and Geoff Johns of Madghost. Elf writer David Berenbaum will write the screenplay, and a director has yet to be named.

Momoa’s co-producers Berg and Silverman have also spoken about the upcoming project and their collaboration with the Game of Thrones actor. “From his role as a fearsome count in a land of ice and fire to the oceanic success we all had with Aquaman, it felt only right to realize Jason this time out of snow,” Berg said. Silverman added: “We know Jason’s as a true human being filled with love, compassion and a deep connection to ohana — all of which is the living spirit of Xmas and Frosty.”

We haven’t been given a release date for Momoa’s Frosty the Snowman movie just yet. More details are likely to come as the project moves forward with pre-production. In the meantime, you can catch Momoa on the big screen later this year when Denis Villeneuve’s Dune remake prmieres on Dec. 18, 2020.
