Unsolved Mysteries has been given a resurgence of mainstream popularity since the start of this month when Netflix debuted the first six episodes of the new revival. The response has been largely positive, with people tuning in across the world with the hopes of solving some of real life’s strangest mysteries. While original host Robert Stack is sorely missed, the original theme music is still present and for the most part, the show retains that classic Unsolved Mysteries vibe.
However, one missing aspect from the revival would be the inclusion of ghost stories. The classic Unsolved Mysteries was filled with them, and a home video DVD set filled with nothing but the show’s best ghost stories was one of the best box sets you could own. Still, as five of the mysteries focused on suspected homicides with the sixth delving into UFO sightings, there were no ghosts to be found in the first batch of new Unsolved Mysteries episodes.
Fortunately, for those who appreciated the classic ghost stories, it should help to know that we’ll be getting at least one more in the next batch of episodes. In a recent interview with Variety, co-creator Terry Dunn Meurer clarified that we’ll be seeing at least one new ghost story episode in the next set of episodes, which is said to be coming to Netflix sometime in 2020.
“Yes. But I’ll qualify that and say it’s an unusual ghost episode. That’s all I’ll say. It’s different. A bit different,” Meurer said when directly asked if upcoming episodes will tackle a mystery involving ghosts. He offers no other details on the story, and while vague, that’s certainly enough to pique the interest of those of us who particularly enjoy the classic show’s ghost stories.
The first six episodes of the new Unsolved Mysteries are now streaming on Netflix.
